Dr. Tonya Wood is a licensed clinical psychologist who has nearly 20 years of experience working with children and families. She earned her PhD in clinical psychology at the University of Virginia in 2000 and currently serves as the director of clinical training in the PsyD program at Pepperdine University. Prior to her appointment at Pepperdine, she was program manager in the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, where she provided clinical assessment and psychotherapy services for youth in foster care.

Throughout her career Dr. Wood has worked in a variety of academic, community, and public sector settings, including public schools, correctional facilities, and community mental health centers, with a particular focus on providing quality services to marginalized populations.

She has extensive supervision and teaching experience and has taught courses on child development, clinical interventions with children, and psychological assessment. In addition to teaching, she has provided numerous public presentations on various subjects such as cultural diversity, clinical supervision, community violence, and adaptations of evidence-based practices for community mental health. Dr. Wood has years of experience treating behavioral and learning disorders and, in particular, working with youth exposed to trauma and violence. Dr. Wood’s specific clinical and research interests include the reduction of health disparities, cross-cultural issues in treatment, and supervision and professional development of trainees and staff.
