Dr. Carolyn O’Keefe is a licensed clinical psychologist. She received her PsyD in clinical psychology at the Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP). She has served as adjunct faculty at GSEP for 10 years, teaching Psychopathology, Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Disorders, Personality and Cognitive Assessment, and Theories of Counseling and Psychotherapy in the master’s program, as well as Group Interventions in the doctoral program. She has also served on several dissertation committees for Pepperdine GSEP doctoral students.
O’Keefe has worked as a psychologist in several different Southern California university counseling centers, and for the past seven years, she has served as a senior staff psychologist in the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Counseling Center. Among her many duties at UCI, she is a member of the Counseling Center’s Training Committee, she is a supervisor in their American Psychological Association-accredited predoctoral internship program, she is the advisor for the center’s LGBTQ Mentoring Program, and she is the center’s liaison to the UCI School of Law. In 2015, O’Keefe served as acting training director at UCI, as well as primary supervisor for the center’s postdoctoral fellow. Her primary interests include working with LGBTQ populations, training, and education, and she is a certified suicide prevention instructor. O’Keefe is a past chair and an active member of the California Psychological Association, Division II – Education and Training Board and serves as the communications director for the American Psychological Association, Division 17 Society of Counseling Psychology Section on Supervision and Training.
In 2014, O’Keefe was awarded the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors Harriett Copher Haynes Diversity Leadership Mentoring Award, and in 2013 she was awarded the Association of Counseling Center Training Agencies Diversity Mentorship Scholarship.
