Career Services

The Career Success team is a resource available to all Pepperdine Online Psychology students that will help equip students and graduates with the skills, competencies, and knowledge of career development they need to obtain and achieve their goals. The Career Success team offers individualized career advising to help you explore a wide range of job options while developing a customized action plan. Whether you are preparing for a career change or a job promotion, our team can help students evaluate career decisions based on professional goals.

We recommend that students do not wait until graduation to start realizing these resources. Here is a recommended action plan to help you make the most of these resources:

First term of school:

  1. In the first term, students should become familiar with all the materials offered in the Virtual Career Center.
  2. Update your resume to include graduate program information and expected graduation date.
  3. Consider short and long term professional goals, related to the academic program.
  4. Schedule a time to speak with a career advisor to target your resume toward professional goals, or make an action plan to develop skills to make progress on career goals.

Two terms before graduating:

  1. Create a target list of potential organizations, positions, and locations of interest.
  2. Create a networking action plan to start developing inroads at those organizations. Consult alumni or new networking contacts for warm introductions or informational interviews
  3. Refresh your cover letter, interview skills, and job negotiation strategies
  4. Finalize resume with relevant work experiences, internships, field placements, academic projects, and coursework.

Virtual Career Center

The Virtual Career Center is a course in Digital Campus that will be there for the entirety of your tenure as a student. It is meant to be a resource that you can complete on your own time, at your own pace. It contains numerous helpful sections, including Conducting the Job Search, Professional Profile Development: Branding, Writing an Impressive Resume, Writing an Impressive Cover Letter, Networking, Interviewing, Social Media Presence, and Next Steps After Getting Hired.

In each section, there are both videos and readings that explore each subject more in depth. There will often be exercises where you can practice the skills covered in that section, and additional resources are provided if you wish to explore the subject more in-depth.
