Prevalence of Intimate Partner Violence among U.S. Women

Each year, millions of women across the U.S. experience Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). IPV can range from serve acts of physical assault to psychological aggression. Using 2010-2012 estimates from the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey, the following graphs highlight the prevalence of IPV targeted at women among racial and ethnic groups in the U.S., as well as the prevalence of specific acts of IPV committed against women. Racial and ethnic breakdowns include survivors of contact sexual violence, physical violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner, but do not include acts of psychological aggression which account for the most frequent acts of IPV.
